Britain’s ugliest dog title winner Peggy is set to star as Dogpool in the upcoming MCU film Deadpool & Wolverine, actor Ryan Reynolds told UK-based magazine Empire in a recent interview, calling the canine an animal manifestation of Deadpool’s alter-ego Wade Wilson.

“The reason why I was a huge proponent for her was because she feels like the animal manifestation of Wade Wilson,” Reynolds said in the interview.

Initially introduced in a 2010 Marvel comic book, Dogpool emerged as "a tiny little afterthought" during the writing process of Deadpool & Wolverine, gradually evolving into a significant element as production progressed, becoming a staple within the film, said Reynolds.

Deadpool & Wolverine, slated to release on July 26, follows Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Logan as they embark on a mission against Charles Xavier's evil twin Cassandra Nova.

On December 5 last year, Reynolds shared a still of him and Peggy, a cross between a Chinese crested breed and a pug, from Deadpool & Wolverine on Instagram. Peggy also has a dedicated Instagram handle by the name Dogpool.

“That’s a wrap on my first movie! We worked our pants off but it was worth it. Everyone on set was the utmost professional, especially Shawn Levy and Hugh Jackman. And a super-hero big bow-wow-WOW to the entire crew. No matter the challenge, you rose to the task and made it look easy. I wouldn’t change a thing. Except maybe one person who was a little extra to deal with. But don’t worry, I’ve forgiven him. I even left him a very special warm, personal gift in his trailer,” reads a post shared on Peggy’s official Instagram handle on January 24.

The trailer for the upcoming film showcases high-octane action sequences featuring Deadpool and Wolverine combating Cassandra and other villains before leaping into what seems like a magical portal.
