The Enforcement Directorate on Monday recovered “huge cash” from the domestic help’s house in Ranchi of Jharkhand Congress leader and rural development minister Alamgir Alam’s personal secretary.

Alam has denied any link with the “huge cash” recovered. “The personal secretary is a deputy collector rank government officer and is appointed based on his experience. My personal secretary (Sanjeev Kumar Lal) had prior experience of working with two senior BJP ministers and was appointed for this reason. I have no idea of how he or his domestic help could amass wealth,” said Alam, who represents the Pakur Assembly constituency under the Rajmahal Lok Sabha seat.

“I would not like to comment much on this at the moment and wait for the ED to complete its search,” said Alam.

Congress spokesperson Rakesh Kumar Sinha alleged that it was a planned conspiracy of the BJP through a federal agency to create a perception against the Congress. “Now everybody knows that the BJP is rattled after two rounds of general election and is using the federal agencies to create a perception against the Congress government. However, truth will prevail. The concerned personal secretary had earlier worked under two BJP cabinet ministers in Jharkhand,” said Sinha.

The raids come a day before Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to address election rallies at Singhbhum and Lohardaga seats.
