Do you remember being in school, and in the lead up to Rabindra Jayanti celebrations, heading to dance or music rehearsals? Inevitably, one of the songs to feature in the line-up — especially when you were a pre-primary or primary school kid — would be Phule Phule Dhole Dhole. My Kolkata just stumbled upon a video on Instagram that will unlock that core memory. Dasom Her, a content creator and author of the book Be You, who often shares content on her love for India and for all things Bangla, recently shared a reel of a Korean band called GRΛNΛDΛ performing the popular Rabindrasangeet, at what seems to be a cultural programme. The mellow rendition with primarily Western classical instruments adds a contemporary flair to the much-loved melody, while keeping all the nostalgia.

Not only were we overjoyed to see the young Korean performers singing a song that is close to every Bengali’s hearts, but also impressed to see how diverse backgrounds have appreciation for our culture.
