Amritsar, July 16 (PTI): Gurcharan Singh Tohra was today named the next president of the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee replacing Kirpal Singh Badungar as part of a unity formula worked out between Akali factions headed by former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and Tohra.

Badal, who had parted ways with Tohra in 1999, announced here that he would be new president of the committee. Earlier in the day, Badungar offered to resign from his post.
