Calcutta: Going to the start as a short priced favourite, the Excalibur’s Lake-Glowing Tribute filly Evangeline, despite her weight disadvantage, triumphed handsomely in the 1,400m Calcutta Fillies Trial Stakes on Thursday. Ryan Marshall partnered the filly trained by Bharath Singh who finished the day with four winners, including Alcalde in the Commuter Cup.

In the same race the Daniel David-ward Immaculate was disqualified for his jockey Amyn Merchant’s failure to ensure that he carried the correct weight at which he had weighed out. Further, following a stewards’ enquiry, the jockey was suspended from August 17 to September 10.
