New Delhi: Long jumper Anju Bobby George will spearhead India’s challenge at the world athletic championships beginning in Paris later this month. Bengal’s Mukti Saha is also in the squad.
Anju, ranked No. 9 in the world and the gold-winner in the Busan Asian Games, was preparing for the meet by participating in the prestigious European circuit including IAAF Super Grand Prix meets.
Asian Games gold medallist in discus Neelam J. Singh was the only other athlete in the Indian team to figure in individual events while S. Geetha, Mukti Saha, Sagardeep Kaur, M. Kalpana Reddy and Manjit Kaur were selected in the 4x400m relay squad, the national athletics federation announced here Monday.
Star athlete K. M. Beenamol will miss the elite meet, having suffered an injury last week.
The federation also named two coaches Jaswant Singh and Robert Bobby George for the meet from August 23 to 31.
