Violinist Pandit V.G. Jog died at his residence off EM Bypass on Saturday morning after a prolonged illness. He was 82 and is survived by his two sons.

Jog’s musical journey began at the age of 12 under the guidance of Ratna Jhankar, B.A. Patvardhan and Omkarnath Thakur. Later, he was also trained by Ustad Alauddin Khan.

The recipient of the Padmabhusan migrated to Calcutta in 1952 as the director of All India Radio. In the late Nineties, Jog contracted Parkinson’s disease.

Chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has conveyed his condolences from Hyderabad. Eminent personalities close to Pandit Jog, like Girija Devi, Arun Bhaduri and V. Balsara, visited his house to pay their last respects.
