Showpiece bridge in shabby hue

A large sum has been earmarked for the upkeep of Vidyasagar Setu, but most of the gully pits remain choked round the year. The piers supporting the bridge have creepers climbing up, which is extremely dangerous, as some of the shrubs can damage the foundation of the structure.

The South Dum Dum Municipality has taken no steps to desilt the Bagjola canal, despite several reminders. The stagnant water here breeds mosquitoes. A proper outflow channel is needed before the monsoon.
