Cardinal upholds harmony

Cardinal Telesphore P. Toppo said peace and unity holds the key for the development of the Northeast. In his interaction with the media after winding up his two-day visit to Dibrugarh Diocese, the cardinal said unity is must for development and he would like to advise all the bishops of the region to strive for it. ardinal Toppo is the first tribal (Adivasi) from Asia to hold the post in the Catholic Church.

Naga meet

The oldest Naga underground group, Naga National Council, has urged people from all corners of Naga areas to participate in the reconciliation meet that it will hold on February 18 at Wokha. President of Naga National Council (Panger faction) on Sunday issued a clarion call to all Nagas of Naga-inhabited areas to participate in its general meeting at Wokha.

Man injured

A man was brought to the Aizawl Civil Hospital late Friday with head injuries after his father-in-law hit him with a firewood. Lianhmingthanga, 35, of Ratu village was seriously injured on Thursday night when he tried to intervene in an altercation between his father-in-law, Sambuana and some local youths.

Church jubilee

The Mizoram Presbyterian Church is busy preparing for the golden jubilee of the church’s youth wing, Kristian Thalai Pawl, to be held from February 19 to 22, 2004.

NAAC visit

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council team visited Nalbari College recently. The team interacted with the principal, members of the governing body, alumni and guardians of the students and also visited the departments.

Girl hospitalised

A seven-year old girl Champa Debnath was admitted to the G.B.hospital in western Agartala after her father Chandan Debnath beat her up.

Officer dead

The officer-in-charge Naorem Rajensingh of Thoubal police commando station, who sustained multiple head injuries in an attack by a militant under detention, succumbed to his injuries at the Barua Neurological Hospital in Dispur on Saturday night. The body was received by his family members at the Imphal airport on Sunday afternoon. The officer’s mortal remains were consigned to flames with full state honour at his village of Samurou in Thoubal.
