Medallists honoured
Guwahati:
The Guwahati Chess Association has felicitated the medallists in its team for the 27th all-Assam chess meet at Rangiya recently. Guwahati won 10 medals, including five golds, to clinch the title. The winners are R. Nivetha (under-9 gold), Bikramjit Dhar, H. Jintumoni Singh and Debashish Dutta (under-11 first three positions), R. Rashmi and Parikshit Upadhyay (under-13 third and fourth), Rajkumar Shrinjan Singha (under-16 fourth), Barnali Sarma (women’s gold), Suranjana Talukdar and Jimly Baruah (junior girls’ first and second), Rajib Dhar, Biswajit Bhardwaj and Dipjyoti Bora (junior boys’ first, third and fourth).
Karbi side wins
Nagaon:
Home side Everest Club of Karbi Anglong trounced Udayan Club of Jorhat 7-1 in the inaugural match of the eighth Assam Club football championship at Karbi Anglong Sports Association ground in Diphu on Sunday. Japisajia Club of Charaideo will meet Radhabari TE Club of Bokakhat on Monday.
City-B advance
Guwahati:
City Cricket Coaching Centre “B” routed Star Cricket Coaching Academy “B” by 73 runs in the inaugural match of the ninth Ashrafur Rahim under-13 inter-coaching centre cricket tournament at Latasil here on Sunday. Put into bat, the winners scored 123 for five in 20 overs, while the Star boys were all out for 50 in 13.4 overs.
Assam in final
Guwahati:
Hosts Assam will meet Manipur on Monday in the Northeast leg final of the 40th junior (under-19) football nationals for the B.C. Roy Trophy. The home side defeated Mizoram 2-1 in the semi-final in Gossaigaon on Saturday. Gautam Daimary and Kubal Rabha scored for the winners, while Mizoram’s Lalrautfila hit the reducer.
Rawat named
Guwahati:
Assam batsman Chandan Rawat has been inducted into the East Zone under-19 team for the Vinoo Mankad Trophy in Kochi. Two others, Pritam Das and Abu Naschim Ahmed, would attend an MRF Pace Foundation camp from February 13.
