Indian team in county likely, says Kirmani

Gurgaon: After the England A team’s participation in the Duleep Trophy, a team from India could play in the English county cricket in near future, national selection committee chairman Syed Kirmani said on Monday.

“Initiatives are being taken to send a team from India — it could be India A, under-19 or any other team — to play in the English County. The idea was mooted after England A came here to play in the Duleep Trophy,” Kirmani revealed.

England A, who are engaged in a battle against Central Zone in a Duleep Trophy match here, were the first overseas team to play in any domestic competition of India.

Kirmani said he was in favour of pitting several other foreign teams in the Duleep Trophy in future.
