Howrah punished

Howrah have been scratched from the Konark Sheets state football league for fielding an ineligible player. They beat South 24 Parganas to a berth in the final round featuring four teams, but a protest against them has been upheld. The Howrah team fielded six players who play in the Super and first division of the IFA League. According to the rule, only five in each team is allowed. Hooghly, South 24 Parganas, Chandannagar and Bardhaman have made it to the final stage.

Football

Narayanpur United beat Barasat Balak Sangha 1-0 in the final of the North 24 Parganas inter-subdivision football tournament. A golden goal separated the two teams.

Thakur best

Sanjay Thakur (light flyweight) has been adjudged best boxer in the state junior championship which got over on Sunday. Calcutta Physical Culture Association was the best team.

OTHER WINNERS: Pappu Rajak (flyweight), Raj Bhujal (feather), Subhabrata Ghosh (heavy), Gopal Mukhia (bantam), Pawan Chowdhury (light), Manoj Yadav (welter).

College meet

Chandannagar College and Bethune College won the men’s and women’s titles, respectively, in the inter-government college table tennis meet, beating Presidency and Barasat Government College. The Barasat team won the men’s badminton crown, followed by Taki Government College. Lady Brabourne and Bethune came first and second in badminton, respectively.

School cricket

South Point beat Naktala HS by six wickets in the CAB under-19 inter-school cricket meet.

Naktala HS 269/7 in 45 ovs (Sankhadeep Chatterjee 67, Shibashish Bhattacharya 50, Amartya Banerjee 3/26, Arijit Roy 3/19). South Point 273/4 in 40 ovs (Dheeman Mukherjee 114 n.o., Arijit Roy 57). South Point won by 6 wkts.
