Mumbai, July 20: Mumbai police reasserted today that drug kingpin Iqbal Mirchi has been detained in the US and would soon be sent back to India.

Joint commissioner of police Satya Pal Singh, whose transfer was announced yesterday, said the intimation about Mirchi’s detention was received a month ago.

The officer had retracted a similar statement yesterday, saying he was misled into believing that the fugitive detained in the US was Mirchi. He said today that teams were likely to be sent to the place where Mirchi has been held to seek his custody.
