Telly go round
Love of, and in, literature

Having done a series of telefilms and mini-series over the years, Joy Mukharji excitedly informed us that he was doing his first in the Sahityer Shera Somoye slot. This one was Bimal Kar?s Ashomoy, scripted by Lovely Mukherjee, and Chandreyee Ghosh doing the role made famous by Aparna Sen on the big screen decades ago.

Joy was busy wrapping up the shoot with Chandreyee, looking slightly plump (she looks more prosperous each time we meet her) for the plum role, and a new actor, Rana Mukherjee, using his strong eyes well (not ogling Chandreyee, but looking piercingly at the lens). Also taking part was the dusky Santwana Bose, who gave up acting on the big screen years ago for marriage and is recently being seen again on the small screen. It seemed that Joy had left all the bedroom shots for the last schedule. The penultimate scenes were with Rana necking and rolling with Santwana, and everyone went into the shot with a swift efficiency. We thought that was all. But Joy informed us later that the last scene was of Chandreyee and Rana?s ?first night?. We almost sent him a picture postcard saying, ?Wish we were there?.
