My college days in Darjeeling were really fun-filled and eventful. I remember many incidents and anecdotes of those heady days. Here is one of them. Since ours was a residential college, the food was nowhere near home. We often complained about the quality. Hence, we would often get up in the middle of the night to raid the staff dining table for some cakes.

On one such raid, we walked straight into an ambush. Unknown to us, one of our professors had got wind of our escapades. He had planned to catch us red handed. So, he placed a big pancake on the dining table. He knew full well that he had laid a very alluring bait and none of us would be able to fight the temptation.

That?s exactly what happened. We attacked the pancake with gusto, oblivious to the fact that the professor was under the table, waiting to pounce on us. We were still digging in, when he suddenly emerged from his hiding place and nabbed us.

Needless to say, we were taken by surprise. There was no question of mounting a defence or denying the crime with our mouths full. However, we were let off after a promise was extracted that we would never do it again.
