Saying no to politics
The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi,
has a brand-new student body and it has nothing to do with politics. Christened
?Student Voice?, it is all set to make its presence felt in the JNU campus. Mohd
Hafeezur Rahman, a student of the School of Languages who is pursuing his PhD
in Persian, is the brain behind this outfit. In a politically-aware campus like
JNU where all student bodies owe allegiance to one party or the other, this is
a laudable attempt to create a neutral pressure group.
Computers for all
What happens when two giants of the IT world ? Intel
and NIIT ? put their heads together to improve the quality of education in Indian
schools? Well, for starters, it means more computer-assisted education for school
students. The two companies have signed an MOU to integrate information and communications
technology in schools, across all classes. They plan to double the number of schools
benefiting from computer-assisted education to 80,000 by 2010.
