Admission procedure: Based on their board exam results, candidates are selected to appear for an interview. The interviews, to be conducted on June 21, are clubbed with secondary and higher secondary results and an overall decision taken. They also look at your extra-curricular achievements.

Cut-off marks (last year’s): Physics ? Science 90% PCM, chemistry ? Science, 85% PCM.

Admission procedure: A preliminary screening based on previous academic record followed by an admission test for all honours subjects. Equal weightage given to performance in the admission test and in the last public exam.

Cut-off marks (last year’s): Physics ? 70% aggregate and 75% in math and physics combined; economics ? 65% aggregate and 60% in math; statistics ? 50% aggregate and 70% in math and stats, or 60% aggregate and 60% in math and stats.

St Xavier’s College, Calcutta

Application forms: Available online, but the last date is not specified. There are no printed forms.

Admission procedure: From the academic session 2004-2005, St Xavier’s introduced online applications for which one has only to log on to the college website, enter the application procedure, fill in the application form and submit it online. There will be no admission tests this year, except in videography and mass communication.

Cut-off marks (current): Mathematics ? 60%; physics ? 60%; stats ? 60%; economics ? 60% aggregate, 60% in math; computer science ? 60% (all boards)

Best known for: Physics, economics, mathematics, computer science.

Admission procedure: Lasts three weeks from the third week of June. Although admissions are granted on the basis of marks, for information technology (IT), separate interviews are conducted after the assessment of the marks by the respective heads of departments.

Cut-off marks (last year’s): 65% in Science.

Best known for: IT, bio-technology, geography, micro-biology.

 

National College, Bangalore

Application forms: Are available now, the last date of submission is June 4.

Admission procedure: Students are shortlisted for admission on the basis of merit. Shortlisted students are called for an interview. They have to be accompanied by their parents. “We insist on parents being present for the interview, so that they know all about the college their wards will be going to,” says Dr M Leelavati, principal.

Cut-off marks (last year’s): Around 60%

Best known for: Computer application (BCA), electronics and computer science.

 

Hans Raj College, New Delhi

Getting serious: A BSc in computer application is much in demand

Admission procedure: Three lists are put up in order of merit. There is a five per cent reservation called the management quota, apart from which seats are allocated on the basis of marks. Forms are priced at Rs 50.

Cut-off marks (last year’s): Bio-technology ? 80%; microbiology ? 75%; physics, chemistry, biology ? 60 %.

Best known for: Bio-technology.

 

Ramnarain Ruia College, Mumbai

Best known for: Micro-biology, bio-chemistry, bio-technology.

 

St Xavier’s College, Ranchi

Application forms: Available from June 5. The last date for the submission of forms is July 5.

Admission procedure: Direct admission for internal students, which usually comes to about 45 per cent of seat strength. For the rest, the college conducts entrance tests and interviews.

Cut-off marks (last year’s): For CBSE/ISC students, 85 %; for Jharkhand board students, 75%. Students from other boards have 10% deducted from their aggregate.

Best known for: Physics, zoology.

 

Kirori Mal College, New Delhi

Best known for: Physics and mathematics.

 

St Joseph’s College, Bangalore

Best known for: Bio-technology and micro-biology.
