HOW WE DID IT

The Careergraph-Mode all-India survey of the best arts, science and commerce undergraduate degree colleges was conducted in three stages. For maximum objectivity, the evaluators chosen were all professors of postgraduate colleges because they are best-placed to judge students of these institutes. In Stage I, a qualitative exploratory study was undertaken among 144 evaluators.

They were drawn from the cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, Chennai and Bangalore and asked to identify the parameters for evaluating these colleges.

The parameters included: infrastructure, course content, faculty, teaching method, interaction with industry, social consciousness, performance, and reputation.
In Stage II, 50 top institutes were shortlisted on the basis of feedback from the respondents.

In Stage III, the best institutes were rated on the basis of the parameters by the evaluators. To arrive at a national ranking of the undergraduate colleges, all four zones were given equal weightage.

Scoring: Any college to be selected in the top 10 by an evaluator received a fixed score (55). Thereafter, for each parameter, the college ranked 1 by an evaluator received a score of 5, if ranked 2 it received 4, and so on. The total of these scores was aggregated across all 144 evaluators and an average score arrived at for each college.
There were times when an institute scored higher on parameters but fell back on the overall rankings.
