Golden moments: A dance recital at the Shri Shikshayatan
celebrations |

50 years and beyond
July 8 was a very special day for all of us. Our beloved college, Shri Shikshayatan, completed 50 glorious years. The golden jubilee celebration definitely warranted special arrangements.
On D-day, we all gathered at Kala Mandir to go on a nostalgic trip. A documentary showcasing the achievements of the college over five long decades revived many memories. Next came an English play called Villa for Sale by Sacha Guitry which was staged by the students. A beautifully-choreographed dance recital by our ex-student Sanjukta Banerjee and her troupe made the day specially memorable.
The second day?s function was held at our college auditorium. After the prize distribution ceremony, we staged a Hindi play called Wapsi, which was adapted from a short story by Usha Priyamvada.
A dance recital based on the four stages of life came next, followed by a special programme titled Shomoy, a recital of Bengali poems, prose and songs ranging from the time of Mahabharata to the modern times, exploring the enigma of time. All in all, it was a fantastic golden jubilee celebration.

Freshers? welcome
On July 14, as a new batch of apprehensive and eager faces walked into the college campus, it brought back our own memories and feelings on the same occasion. For freshers, the first day at Presidency College is the occasion for the so-called introduction ceremony.
All the new students and their parents are invited to the Derozio Hall where, after a welcome song, the principal addresses the newcomers. Next, the senior students guide the newcomers to their respective departments where they meet their professors. After this, they have an informal chat with the senior students of their departments. The first day of college is, however, never complete without a visit to the legendary Promod-da?s canteen. And so, bit by bit, they become part of the culture of Presidency.
