Bhutia signs deal with MK Land

Calcutta: Bhaichung Bhutia will play for Malaysian outfit MK Land in the Malaysian Cup.

The India captain, who landed in Malaysia Thursday morning, signed a three-month contract with MK Land. Informing this, an official of Total Asia Sports, which is acting as an agent for the player, said Bhaichung would return after October 1, when his agreement with the Malaysian club comes to an end. He will play only in the Malaysian Cup.

MK Land, who finished third in the recently-concluded Premier League in Malaysia, will start their Malaysian Cup campaign on August 6 ? against Selangor and Bhaichung will, in all possibility, play the match.

Interestingly, Perak FC, for who Bhaichung had played the Malaysian Cup on previous occasion, are in the same group with MK Land.

Meanwhile, Bhaichung got in touch with a UB Group official hours before leaving for Malaysia and as per discussions between the two, a draft of his proposed contract with East Bengal will be sent to his agent.

EB academy

East Bengal has approached Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya for a plot of land in setting up a football academy. Announcing this on Thursday, the club official Swapan Bal said they have asked for a plot anywhere around the city.

In a letter to Bhattacharya, dated July 22, East Bengal proposed to set up a state-of-the-art academy, aiming to “pick and groom talents from rural areas”.

According to the proposal attached with that letter, East Bengal are planning to set up, among others, three practice grounds, a 35,000-capacity stadium, swimming pool, gymnasium, residential complex and a diagnostic centre, as parts of the academy.
