Federer hand in Rosset ouster

Bern: World No. 1 Roger Federer has again demonstrated his power over his country?s tennis association by effectively ousting Swiss Davis Cup captain Marc Rosset.

Swiss Tennis said in a statement that Rosset had been sacked following a vote by team members.

Federer is quoted in the statement as saying the vote was unanimous and that he had personally informed Rosset of the decision.

?Internal matters within the team? were cited as the reason for the split.

Maria on rich list

Moscow: Former Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova is Russia?s one of the richest star earning $18.2 million in the past year. The latest issue of Forbes?Russian edition features its first ranking of the country?s celebrities. What?s significant is that the three richest stars of the list are not even Russian citizens ? Sharapova is a resident of the US; boxer Konstantin Tszyu, who made $8 million, lives in Australia and tennis star Marat Safin, earning $4.7 million, is Monaco-based.

Rafique for USAID

Dhaka: Bangladesh cricketer Mohammed Rafique will be a spokesperson for a USAID-funded health care programme on maternal and neonatal issues. NSDP (NGO Service Delivery Programme), USAID?S largest programme in Bangladesh, provides families with high-quality, low-cost reproductive health, maternal health and child health care services.
