CALCUTTA
Technicolour dream

It took five months of rigourous work and the participation of around 200 students (junior and senior) from the The Assembly of God Church School, Calcutta, to get the production underway. But when it finally hit the stage on the evening of August 16 at the Science City main auditorium, it was indeed a magical moment for all of us.

Directed by our music teacher P. N. Shaw, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was a grand success. Our administrator Dr Wang had watched the DVD of the Broadway musical (with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Llyod Webber). It was always his dream to get the school to stage this musical. The proceeds are to go to the school that he is starting for underprivileged children who rummage through garbage dumps to earn a living.

We were all so very proud to be a part of this extravaganza. Ex-student Dayanidhi Rao played Joseph and I was given the difficult task of narrating the musical and singing most of the songs. Initially, I was a bit nervous, but then all my fears melted away as the ?three Es? ? excitement, energy and encouragement ? took over. Needless to say, the musical (also staged on August 17 and 18) was a great hit.

Monsoon bash

St Patrick?s High School held their first fest ever by organising ?Spectrum? last month. It was held over three days and its theme was ?Monsoon?. Six other schools were invited to be part of an extravaganza that included 14 events. There were events like quiz, debate, drama, music and dance competitions. My school took part in eight competitions. There was so much excitement! After all, this was the first time that such a fest was being held in the history of this school and of this city

CALCUTTA
A whole new world

For any first year student, the most exciting day of their lives is the first day in college. And you can trust our college to come up with something different to make students feel at home from day one. At the recently-held orientation programme, the freshers got a chance to interact with the guest of honour and alumni ? Derek O?Brien, a star in his own right. He told us about his antics during his college days and his witty talk amused us a great deal.
