Health package

Midnapore, Aug. 27: Health and family welfare minister Surjya Kanta Mishra today unveiled a Rs 1,000-crore package for the development of the state’s rural health infrastructure.

At the inauguration of a new building at a primary health centre at Rajnagar village in West Midnapore, 180 km from Calcutta, he said facilities at primary health centres would be doubled in the next five years.

Train mishap

East Midnapore: Mriganka Roy, 19, a first-year student of Bankura Unnayani Institute of Engineering, died after falling from the Purulia Express at Radhamohanpur station on Saturday night. Mriganka, a resident of Baranagar in Calcutta, was going to Bankura to join his college, rail police said.

Abduction

Behrampore: Murshidabad police on Saturday registered an abduction case against Rajib Hossain, the son of Congress MP Manan Hossain, on charges of alleged abduction of a 17-year-old girl, Suli Khatun.

Rape arrest

Midnapore: The absconding 65-year-old father-in-law of a woman of East Midnapore was arrested on charges of raping her for two years.
