Hydraulic snag grounds IA flight

New Delhi (PTI): An Indian Airlines plane with 87 passengers on board made an emergency landing at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday when the pilot detected a technical fault after take-off.

The plane, IC940, took off for Hyderabad around 7 am. Soon after, the pilot detected a hydraulic problem and asked for an emergency landing at the airport, police sources said.

Full emergency was declared at the airport with fire tenders and ambulances being rushed to the tarmac.

The plane landed safely around 7.30 am.

The passengers were later flown to Hyderabad in another aircraft.

Twin blasts at party offices

Bangalore (PTI): Two “small-intensity” explosions occurred almost simultaneously in the office buildings of the Janata Dal (S) and the Congress on Friday evening.

No one was injured in the incidents, which appeared to be an attempt to “play mischief and create a scare”, police said.

A window pane was damaged in the blast in the toilet of the Janata Dal (S) office but no damage occurred in the Congress complex, officials said. “It is an act of mischief to create a scare,” said M.C. Narayana Gowda, joint commissioner (crime).

While the blast at the Janata Dal (S) office was reported immediately, police were informed about the blast at the Congress office on Saturday, he added.

Truck kills 8

Firozabad (PTI): Eight persons sleeping on a pavement were killed and three injured when a truck veered off the road and ploughed into them on the outskirts of Shikohabad in Uttar Pradesh early on Saturday.

The truck driver has been arrested and the vehicle impounded, police said.

Glare on doctor

Tiruchirapalli (PTI): Police have registered a case of negligence against an orthopaedist after the death a man at the Tuticorin Port Trust Hospital. The case under Section 204(a) of the Indian Penal Code ? causing death by negligence ? was registered after the 24-year-old reportedly died on being administered anaesthesia before the plaster on his fractured left hand was removed, police said.

Badrinath row

Gopeshwar, Uttaranchal (PTI): The chief administrator of the Shri Badrinath Kedarnath temple committee, Indrajeet Malhotra, has resigned following alleged differences with the chairman of the temple committee, Nandkishore Nautiyal.
