The Veterinary Council of India (VCI) conducts the All-India Common Entrance Examination (AICEE) for admission to the bachelors degree course in veterinary science and animal husbandry (BVSc and AH). The test accounts for almost 15 per cent of the total number of seats in veterinary colleges across the country.
The Council is a statutory body of the Government of India framed under an Act dealing with the regulation of veterinary practice and education in India. The Act is extended to all states, except Tamil Nadu and Jammu and Kashmir.
The duration of the veterinary science and animal husbandry course is spread over five complete academic years, including a compulsory rotating internship of six months.
You can get a copy of the information bulletin containing an application form from the office of the deputy secretary of examination, examination section. The office is located at the Veterinary Council of India, Block B, August Kranti Building, Bhikaji Cama Place, New Delhi.
The information bulletins along with the application forms can be obtained by post on payment of Rs 750 for the general category and Rs 400 for the SC/ST category through a demand draft drawn in favour of the ?Veterinary Council of India? payable at New Delhi in any scheduled bank.
The last date for the submission of completed application forms is usually in the months of February or March.

Eligibility
In order to be eligible for this test, you should
be 17 years old as on December 31 of the year of admission.
You must also have passed the senior secondary examination with subjects like physics, chemistry, biology and English, securing 50 per cent (40 per cent for SC/ST candidates) in aggregate in each of these subjects.
Entrance Exam
Admission to the bachelors degree course in veterinary
science and animal husbandry is made on an all-India basis.
Students are selected through the all-India entrance examination
conducted in May by the Veterinary Council of India in several
cities across India.
Pattern of Exam
The entrance exam is of three-and-a-half hours? duration.
It comprises a 200-mark paper in English, consisting of
objective-type questions on physics, chemistry, biology
and GK. The institute prepares the merit list separately
for general and SC/ ST candidates. The AICEE follows the
standard of the 10+2 scheme/pre-medical/intermediate science
or an equivalent exam of an Indian university.
How to prepare
For the biology section, you can
follow books such as ABC of Biology by Arora and
Sabarwal, Comprehensive Biology by Lakshmi publications
and other books on biology by Nutan and Pradeep publications.
For physics, you can read up books by Krishna, Lodiwala
and H.C. Verma and for chemistry, books by Arihant, Dinesh
or Tata McGraw Hill publications can come in handy. Brush
up your general knowledge with the help of the Manorama
Yearbook or CSR Yearbook and read magazines like
Competition Wizard. Reading newspapers regularly
will also help you in this regard.
