Bloody raid

Barasat, Dec. 27: An extortionist hurled a bomb and seriously injured three policemen about to pounce on him in his Barrackpore den.

North 24-Parganas police chief Praveen Kumar said Gabbar Chow-dhury pulled out the bomb from his pocket. “Three of his fingers were also blown off and he has been arrested.”

Levy relief

Calcutta: The government will waive Rama-krishna Mission’s land revenue dues. There is provision in the law for waiver for charitable educational trusts.

Man shot

Barrackpore: A man walking alone was shot dead by motorcycle-borne assailants in the cantonment area on Tuesday night. Police identified him as Manoj Verma from his credit card.

Cop run over

Calcutta: Lakshmi- kanta Ghosh, a special branch assistant sub-inspector, was run over by a truck near Rabindra Sadan at 8 pm on Tuesday. He was crossing a road.
