TELL ME WHY

Do you know of a flower that faces the sun? It?s the sunflower! It is an annual plant with a large flower head. On sunny days, its bud tracks the sun on its journey along the sky from east to west. At night or at dawn, the bud returns eastward. This movement takes place due to the motor cells in the flexible part of the stem just below the bud. The stem stiffens at the end of the bud stage, and when the blooming stage is reached, the stem freezes in its eastward direction, thus facing the sun.
