Are you on the threshold of a management career? And have you been plagued by thoughts of coughing up lakhs of rupees in fees? You have the option of availing of some attractive scholarships offered by the B-schools themselves. From industry-sponsored aid to in-house scholarships, you could ask your institute for financial assistance. Here is a comprehensive list of scholarships offered by some of the top B-schools in India.

IIM-Calcutta: If your family income is less than Rs 50,000 p.a., then you may get a full waiver of the tuition fee amount of Rs 93,000. You get a 75 per cent tuition fee relaxation if your family income is between Rs 50,000 and Rs 1 lakh p.a. If the income is between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 1.5 lakh then you need to pay only 50 per cent of the tuition fee. And you get a waiver of 25 per cent on your tuition fees if the income is between Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh. You can also avail of two industry-sponsored scholarships: the Aditya Birla Merit Scholarship under which Rs 1.25 lakh is given to first and second-year students based on their performance in the common admission test (CAT), and the Sir Ratan Tata Scholarships of Rs 50,000 each, also given on the basis of merit.

IIM-Indore: If IIM-Indore is your destination then fill a separate form at the time of registration to avail of financial aid given by the institute. The eligibility criterion is that the family income should be less than Rs 2 lakh.

The institute also offers three merit-based industry scholarships. These include the Kalyani scholarship, sponsored by Bharat Forge Limited is of Rs 2 lakh, the State Bank of Indore gives a scholarship of Rs 1 lakh and the Eicher group?s scholarship gives Rs 50,000 as aid. These are given in the second year of your study, based on a student?s performance.

IIM-Ahmedabad: Students with family income of less than Rs 2 lakh p.a. can avail of scholarships that cover full or partial tuition fees. (For 2005-2006, it is Rs 1 lakh). Further, 16 scholarships are granted to students from the annual interest accruing out of donations made by companies to IIM-A. These scholarships are of is Rs 10,000 (maximum) each.

The government of India merit-cum-means and SC/ST scholarships are awarded to students who meet the stipulated criteria laid down by the government. Moreover, the Aditya Birla Group scholarships of Rs 1.25 lakh are given to first and second-year students.

IIM-Lucknow: If your family income is less than Rs 1.50 lakh per annum, you get a 100 per cent tuition fee waiver. If the income is between Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh, then a percentage of the tuition fee amount is waived. In addition to this, there are about eight industry-sponsored scholarships for students.

IIM-Kozhikode: The institute has not specified any fixed income limit but usually, the aid amount does not exceed more than Rs 1 lakh. For the batch of 2004-2005, 76 students were awarded need-based scholarships. Students have the option of availing the Ratan Tata scholarships that are of Rs 50,000 each. There is also the Hughes Escorts Communication Limited scholarship. Under this, either a consolidated amount of Rs 2.5 lakh is given to one candidate or five students get Rs 50,000 each. The criteria for selection are academic and overall performance. The institute also gives in-house merit scholarships to students.

IIM-Bangalore: Students whose annual household income is less than Rs 2 lakh are eligible for financial aid. The aid amount varies from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh. There are also merit-based scholarships like the Batch of 91 Scholarship of Rs 1.5 lakh which is given to one student from the second year. Then there is the Uday Nayak Memorial Scholarship for Rs 10,000, and the Ratan Tata Trust and Rotary Education Foundation Aid, each for Rs 50,000. In addition, the All-India Management Association has instituted 15 scholarships of up to Rs 60,000 each for students with 60 per cent marks in graduation and whose family income is less than Rs 15,000 per month. The Aditya Birla Scholarship is given to students from both the years. The aid amount is Rs 1.25 lakh per year.

XLRI: On offer are the Jubilee scholarships of Rs 50,000 given to first-year students of personnel management and industrial relations (PMIR) and business management (BM). The Rs 1 lakh T.Thomas scholarship is awarded to second-year students of BM and PMIR. There are also several other merit-cum-means scholarships offered at XLRI. The amount varies from Rs 60,000 to 10,000.
