Sensex hits new peak
Mumbai, Jan. 30: The sensex today breached the 9,900-mark for the first time and later swung in a range of 142 points before ending 22 points lower at 9,849.03. This was in line with sustained FII inflows followed by profit booking by local investors. However, small-cap stocks came under a fresh onslaught of selling pressure and suffered losses.
Core growth
New Delhi, Jan. 30: Infrastructure growth has declined marginally to 4.7 per cent during December 2005 from 4.8 per cent a year ago, largely on account of a sharp decline in crude oil output and poor performance in the power sector.
NMDC selloff
New Delhi, Jan. 30: The government today invited bids from merchant bankers to act as advisers for selling 15 per cent of its stake in the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC), which could fetch around Rs 3,000 crore.
Tata Sky
Mumbai, Jan. 30: Tata Sky, the DTH venture of the Tatas and STAR, today announced their partnership with NDS Group plc, a provider of technology solutions for digital pay TV. Tata Sky has chosen NDS end-to-end solutions for the launch of the company?s DTH television service in India in mid-2006.
Bullion tax
New Delhi, Jan. 30: Correcting an anomaly in the value-added tax structure, an official committee today prevailed upon Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat to maintain uniform tax rates on bullion.
