Jhanu, Jayanta impress

Calcutta: Jharkhand’s Jayanta Talukdar led the field in the men’s section while Uttar Pradesh’s Sushma held the top spot in the women’s section of the recurve on the opening day of the 26th Senior National Archery Championship here at the Sports Authority of India (Eastern centre) on Monday.

Talukdar gathered 657 points after the 90m and 70m rounds. Statemates Gautam Singh and Rahul Banerjee follow him with 639 and 636 points, respectively.

Among the women, Sushma found the target four times, besides hitting 22 ten-pointers to gross 648 points. She finished second in both the distances.

In the women’s category, the three top spots were occupied by Jhanu Hansda (679), Manjudha Soy (651) and Sakro Besra (646), respectively.

Limba Ram was the notable absentee in the tournament.
