| Goodies galore: A young girl chooses Valentine’s Day gifts |
For the first time, the students of Bhawanipore College were given a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Valentine?s Day in the college campus itself. The main attractions of the programme were Red FM RJs Rakesh and Pragya, who came and rocked the stage. DJ Shireen kept the crowd on its feet throughout the evening. Every student was gifted with a beautiful rose. The surprise of the evening was a live coverage of the programme by the news channel Aaj Tak.

Sphuran 2006
The South Calcutta Law College students? union organised an inter-college festival, Sphuran 2006, on February 6 and 7, at Nazrul Manch. Students of several colleges participated in events like antakshari, eastern solo, dumb charades and dance. The mercury rose with electrifying performances by the bands Cactus, Swastik and Prithvi. The students of the host college also put up a fashion show of ethnic wear. Overall, Sphuran 2006 was a great success.

Fun fiesta
On February 14 Acharya Girish Chandra Bose College celebrated its annual social Fun Fiesta 2006. The event rocked with live performances by the Pakistani rock band Jal and the Indian Idol finalists, Rahul Vaidya and Amit Sana. While Sana entertained the crowd with popular numbers like Jiya dharak dharak, Woh Kisna hai, and his own number Chal diye, Vaidya enthralled them with songs like Aashiq banaya, Kajra re and Tere intezar. Jal had the audience completely mesmerised with songs like Lamhe, Dil haaray, Rangon mein, Aadat and many more.

Three in one
Our annual school exhibition-cum-fete-cum-cultural programme was held on January 28 and 29. In the exhibition, various items like glass paintings, masks, soft toys, little huts built out of chocolates and biscuits, etc ? all made by children from classes lower KG to XII ? were displayed. In the evening, we got to watch some excellent Bharatnatyam, Bhangra and Western dance performances. The programme was a great success, thanks to the supervision of our teachers and our principal, Herbert George.

Goodbye, Patrick?s
On February 7, St Patrick?s bid farewell to the outgoing batch of 2006. The event kicked off with a speech by a student followed by one by our headmistress, Seema Paul. Apart from an excellent dance performance, the programme comprised some English, Hindi and Bengali songs. We also enacted a comedy, Julius Seesaw, which was highly appreciated by the audience. The class teachers gave out mementoes to the students of Class XII. The event came to an end with a short but sweet speech by Brother Gayle.

Lucky 13
On January 21, 2006, Assam University completed 13 glorious years. The day began with an inspiring speech by our vice chancellor Dr Subhash Chandra Saha, followed by some Rabindra Sangeet. Dr P.N. Srivastava, former member of the planning commission, was the chief guest. On this occasion, Dr Saha inaugurated a new health centre for the university and announced that the university was planning to open a school of engineering too. The cultural programme was a lively one with a quiz contest, songs, dances and recitations. Sports events like the 100m race, volleyball and table tennis matches were enjoyed by all.
