DVD/VCD reviews

Kalyug (Shemaroo; DVD Rs 349), directed by Mohit Suri, is a film from the Bhatt camp. The idea of the film came from an article that Mahesh Bhatt had come across about a honeymooning couple, filmed without their knowledge, making love and distributed through the net. Here the plight of such a young couple (Kunal-Smiley) has been brought to light to make people aware of such a heinous crime. The film spotlights on the huge market of pornography and prostitution all over the world. The film was retitled Kalyug from Blue Film, as the latter name could have been very misleading and the film is indeed a neat film keeping within the commercial frame. Amrita Singh is a revelation with a comeback of sorts. The remix version of the superhit song, Aadat, is available in this DVD along with other special features.

Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi (Shemaroo; DVD Rs 349), written and directed by Mahesh V. Manjrekar, is a fun film coupled with small dosage of sorrow in it as well. Well, Shahid and Amrita with nine kids in tow (including Mahesh’s son and Shahid’s kid brother) can be just that. Add Sunjay Dutt as the hilarious Yamraj M.A. driving his red Chevrolet to carry the dead Shahid to Heaven. But on the way this highly emotional Yamraj gets blackmailed into letting him go for a day because he’s convinced that Shahid’s family needs him badly in the face of a business crisis, scheming relative, the house getting auctioned and a heartbroken fiancee. But, of course, there is a catch?he’ll be returned to Earth invisible and the fun begins.

Get more fun out of it as the DVD’s special features include some additional deleted scenes and interviews with the cast here.

Deewane Huye Paagal (Shemaroo; DVD, Rs 399) by Vikram Bhatt is another comic caper with the hilarious threesome Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal. And amid them is the starcrossed lover Shahid Kapur and Rimii. While Shahid does his best to get back his love Rimii, who fled to Dubai since a gang of goons went after her for some secret formula that she possessed without knowing it, the threesome under varied pretexts were chasing her for love.
