Arrest looms on gutka duo

Mumbai (PTI): Arrests of gutka barons Manikchand Dhariwal and Jagdish Joshi appear imminent with city police commissioner A.N. Roy granting sanction under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) to the CBI to prosecute them for their alleged underworld links.

The CBI is pursuing a case against Dhariwal and Joshi for having allegedly met don Dawood Ibrahim in Karachi to settle a business dispute between them. They had also reportedly helped Dawood’s brother with his gutka trade in Karachi.

Salman quiz

Mumbai (PTI): Salman Khan was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate on Thursday regarding the purchase of his Toyota Landcruiser, which allegedly rammed into a Bandra bakery in 2002 and killed one person. His lawyer said everybody buying an imported car has to face the inquiry on whether duties have been paid.

Aunt jailed

New Delhi (PTI): A court has sentenced a woman to life imprisonment for abetting the gangrape of her niece. The court also convicted Saroj of having pushed the girl into prostitution. Saroj’s husband Punnu, who allegedly raped the girl several times, has been declared a proclaimed offender. The girl was in the couple’s care after her father died.

German rap

New Delhi (PTI): Delhi High Court has ordered police to register rape charges against a German after an Indian girl complained he sexually exploited her. The girl said Ulrich Ritter, an excavation specialist for a multinational at Jammu, lured her with promise of marriage but later backed out.

Senior citizen

New Delhi (PTI): The Centre has formulated a national policy for senior citizens, covering financial security, healthcare, housing, protection of life and property and overall welfare.
