PSPB retain both titles

Jaipur: Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) retained the team championship titles in both men’s and women’s section of the 67th National Table Tennis Championship at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium here.

Propelled by a formidable line-up, which includes country’s top ranked players like Achanta Sharath Kamal and Somyadeep Roy, PSPB defeated Railways 3-1 to claim the men’s title for the fourth consecutive time, and 13th time in overall.

In women’s section PSPB thrashed North Bengal 3-0 to clinch the title for the eighth consecutive and overall 11th time.

In the men’s final, Sharath won 9-11, 11-8, 11-7, 8-11 and 11-8, but Soumyadeep lost to Amalraj 11-8, 8-11, 4-11, 11-9, 4-11. But Shubhajit Saha fought hard to beat Anirban Nandi 12-10, 6-11, 5-11, 13-11 and 11-6 and then Soumyadeep made amends by defeating Saurav 11-6, 5-11, 11-7, 2-1, 11-7.

On the distaff, Mouma Das made a brilliant recovery from two games down to beat Nandita Saha 9-11, 6-1, 11-9, 13-11, 12-10.

Pouloumi Ghatak got the better of Sumona Bose 11-6, 11-9, 8-11, 11-3. K. Shamini then had it easy against Kasturi Chakraborty 11-8, 11-9, 11-3.
