I will be completing my postgraduation in media management this June. At present, I am doing an internship with a leading daily. I've also got an offer from a US-based company based in the south. I’d like to go abroad for higher studies in print or broadcast journalism. Could you please give me some details of good universities in the US or the UK? Which exams should I clear for this? Does work experience with a leading company fetch extra points for getting into the top universities?

You can pursue print or broadcast journalism at the Michigan State University, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, among other institutes in the US. In the UK, you can go for such courses at University of Sheffield and University of Westminster, among others. You need to take TOEFL and GRE (only some universities will require it) for applying to these universities. There are different scholarships available for funding your studies. Some universities have their own scholarship schemes for international students and scores required for availing such scholarships differ from one university to another. Also, it may be pointed out that often, examination scores alone are not taken into account while giving scholarships. A lot of other factors, like the financial condition of the students, are also sometimes taken into consideration. You can highlight your work experience in your personal essays as some universities do keep in mind the work experience of students while screening applicants.

I have passed my graduation in pharmacy (BPharm). I want to go abroad, preferably to Germany or Holland, for postgraduation studies in pharmacy. Please give me the details of the duration and expenditure of the course.

Postgraduate studies in Germany and Holland usually take one or two years. In Holland, the tuition fees vary from one university to another. However, roughly speaking, most postgraduation courses cost between 5,000 and 12,000 euros. Many institutions have policies especially beneficial to foreign students. The cost of living expenses will be around 7000 euro per year. Most of the universities in Germany do not charge any fee, but some of them charge a small administrative fee (per semester) which ranges from DM 50 to DM 200 per semester.
