Moon tickets

This is one book which is bound to remind you of your grandmother. The Good Night Stories, written and illustrated by Nimret Handa, has two stories between its covers and brings back all the simple joys of childhood.

The first story takes you to the moon and back. It tells you how a vain moon hid in the snail?s shell to save itself from being burnt by an angry sun. So next time you don?t see the moon in its place just look into a snail?s shell and who knows what you might find! The second story is of a little princess whose father, the King, gives in to all her demands. But one day, when the snow is knee-deep, the princess says she wants her garden to bloom with flowers overnight! A gardener is assigned with the job.

Find out how the poor gardener gave us our first snowlilies and what happened to him. Brought out by Rupa & Co. the book is priced at Rs. 95.

Swansong

A swan caused traffic jam when it decided to sit in the middle of a busy road in Coventry. The bird refused to move or give way, reports The Mirror. When the police attempted to move the bird, they were chased away with an angry peck. The swan apparently did not want to give in so easily. An onlooker said: “It was hilarious. It refused to budge.” The bird finally flew off after a few hours.
