‘Then the hectivity really hits you’

Q: How was the experience of working with Dharmesh Darshan?

It was fabulous. That man knows his cinema and how to use it. All of us had a ball, except that it was minus-5 degrees where we were shooting in Ludlow (on the outskirts of London). The climatic conditions were unbearable. And I had to wear chiffons and skirts for the camera. I’d do the shots in the freezing cold, rush to the car and turn the heater on full. A month of blowing cold and blowing hot has taken its toll on my health. I’m down with fever. But there was such warmth among us ? Akshaye Khanna, Dino, Amisha, Anupam, Lillette. Except Suniel Shetty whom I had worked with before, all of the team were new to me. I had great fun. And whatever we’ve shot has turned out really nice. We shot in a beautiful place called Ludlow. Very cold, very beautiful. I love the outdoors. But I also love to come home. It’s then that the hectivity really hits you.

Q: What’s hectivity?

A word I just coined for hectic activity.

Q: Was Dharmesh the right director for you?

Very right. Though I hadn’t worked with him before, I had worked with his brother Suneel and Dharmesh used to be around. He was very supportive when I began my career. He was very good at extracting performances. It was a load of fun shooting for Aap Ki Khatir. It’s not at all a typical Dharmesh Darshan film. It’s very much in keeping with how you look at life today. Dharmesh was open to ideas and suggestions. Akshaye Khanna is a fantastic actor. I had a great time emoting with him. I also worked with Amisha for the first time. She’s very, very sweet. We used to play word games together while waiting for our shots.

Q: But according to a story, Amisha and you fought ike cats!

Are you out of your mind?! Where did that come from? Let me tell you, I’ve never had any problems with any of my costars. Whether it’s Lara in Andaaz or Bebo [Kareena] in Aitraaz, I’ve never had stress with any of my costars.

I guess it makes a lot of news to pitch two female stars against each other. Though, mind you, we never read about two male stars fighting. I pride myself on getting along with most of my costars. True, Amisha and I didn’t socialise after pack-up. Right after shooting I was with my physical trainer, getting trained for Don. But we got along well on the sets.

Q: Apparently your training got on people’s nerves?

I was using my time after shooting. How did it affect anyone?

Q: What else did you catch up with in England?

Nothing. Between shooting and training for Don I had no time for anything. What to do? A girl’s gotta do what she’s gotta do. In the last three years I’ve had no time for anything but work.

Q: What about normal activities like boyfriends, dates, pubs?

What makes you think I don’t enjoy what I’m doing? As for a boyfriend I haven’t found a person to whom I’m willing to give that amount of time and attention. I’d rather give my entire self to my work.
