Bridgetown: The British
government has agreed to assist Caribbean organisers in
providing a secure World Cup next year, foreign minister
Jack Straw said.
Speaking at the end of the United
Kingdom-Caribbean Forum on Friday, Straw said as part of
preparations for the first World Cup in the West Indies,
a joint security plan with the UK has been drawn up.
Straw added that the UK will support
the Caribbean communitys common visa arrangements
for the period of the World Cup next March-April, help assist
issuing visas in countries where the Caribbean community
is not represented, provide intelligence links with other
countries and possibly provide support for disaster preparations.
The tournament will be spread
over Barbados, Jamaica, St Lucia, St Kitts and Nevis, Antigua
and Barbuda, Grenada, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad
and Tobago, and Guyana.
Meanwhile, the West Indies Cricket
Boards no-alcohol at grounds hosting international
matches directive came into effect from Saturdays
first ODI between the West Indies and Zimbabwe in St Johns.
This is to conform with ICCs
safety regulations keeping in mind next years World
Cup.
