IDOL WORSHIP: Amit Sana and Aditi Paul at the MSIT fest

Meghnad Saha Institute of Technology, Calcutta, organised its annual cultural fest on campus on March 27. The concluding part of the two-day extravaganza was held in the Science City auditorium the next day.

The event kicked off with an inter-college solo singing competition, which witnessed some brilliant performances by participants from various colleges. Along with mind-blowing performances by Bangla band Fossils and Heartquake, a college band, the first day ended with the sizzling beats of DJ Suraj.

On the second day, events like ?mixed bag?, choreography and quiz competitions and a fashion show were held while the audience swayed to the pulsating music of the college band, Friendz. But the best was saved for the last, with Amit Sana and Aditi Paul treating the audience to some popular numbers.

Meet on biodiversity

The West Bengal Biodiversity Board in association with Scottish Church College organised a workshop on biodiversity and conservation in the college on March 29. There were interesting slide shows on the rich biodiversity in the Sunderbans and the threats posed to it by industrialisation, use of chemical pesticides and various other human activities. We also learnt that the biodiversity of an area acts as a natural pollution control agent. Other topics included ecotourism and biodiesel.

ASANSOL
The world at our fingertips

Our school became perhaps the first one in India to get an alumni-funded broadband Internet access. The initiative was sponsored by the St Patrick?s Alumni International (SPAI), comprising about 600 former students in India and abroad. Jayanta Bhowmik (1986 batch), the lead donor for this ?Broadband Bridge?, gave the keynote presentation during the launch of the facility. Kingshuk Mallik (1990 batch) was the chief architect of this project. Through video-conferencing, we interacted with ex-students living abroad. An online mentoring system for students, called the SPS Advice Forum, has also been set up.
