| Secretary of the
Greater Cooch Behar Peoples Association Bangshibadan
Barman (right) talks to reporters at his residence
in Jarabari. The association on Tuesday officially
withdrew its indefinite hunger strike scheduled
for May 5 to protest against the Assembly elections
in the district, which the outfit alleges is illegal.
Barman said the step is being taken to guard against
a conspiracy by the Left Front to sabotage their
peaceful demonstration. Cooch Behar superintendent
of police Jagmohan has expressed his satisfaction
at the development. Picture by Himangshu Ranjan
