Right technique
Face Recognition technology (Your face is on camera, April 24) seems to be the right technique to combat with bogus voters. It has been successful in curbing people from casting false votes in countries like in US, Mexico, Uganda and several other places too. However the face recognition technology for voter identification and authenticity was introduced for the first time in Bihar, where it has been successful to a great extent. This data base technology is expensive but it is the most appropriate technique in election to wipe out voters trying to cast bogus votes.

It was heartening to learn about Byomkesh Kumar Ghosh in the story, No More Conjectures (April 24). Patience and perseverance pay off in more ways than one is evident from his story ? a private tutor solving a famous mathematical puzzle and his paper finding way to international conferences. We are all aware of the dedication and patience required to establish oneself in the realm of mathematics and his success should be a guide to future students who love the subject for the sake of itself only and nothing else.

Scientific exposure
Television accords a step-motherly treatment to the science buffs, (Check brain drain, May 1). Most of the television programmes revolve around films and serials with a noticeable amount of sex and violence. Youngsters should be given the opportunity to watch more science based programmes. When the countrys scientific infrastructure and policies are such that most of the youth are disillusioned, resulting in brain drain. The least that can be done is to allow an exposure to science through television, thereby inculcating in them a scientific temperament.
