Desailly quits

Paris: Former France captain Marcel Desailly said on Sunday he had ended his playing career. Desailly confirmed his retirement on a French TV station but added: “I’m going to continue to work in football.”

A member of France’s 1998 World Cup and 2000 European Championship-winning teams, the 37-year-old defender earned a French record of 116 caps before retiring from international soccer in 2004.

Desailly made his professional debut at Nantes and helped Olympique Marseille to win the Champions League in 1993 before moving to AC Milan. (Reuters)
