Rants & Raves

In agreement

I completely agree with Kajal Chatterjee, who very aptly expressed her opinion about Indian TV programmes in the column Rants & Raves (May 8). It is high time that we start thinking about our children. They seem to have taken a liking for progammes which offer nothing informative. I strongly believe that the need of the hour is to telecast more children-oriented programmes on science (to enrich the knowledge of the children). Above all, these programmes need to be impressive enough to attract the children. Such programmes will definitely help our children with their studies and they will definitely score good marks in their exams.

Getting right figures

Thanks for publishing the story on psephology (The truth about exit polls, May 8). I had been in search for this type of a story for a long time. I am aware of the fact that in this business of facts and figures, there are ample chances of making errors, which has been aptly mentioned in the story. But sometimes, exit polls have been correct in their predictions. In the story you omitted to mention the Bihar Exit Poll 2005, conducted by CSDS for CNN-IBN-Hindustan Times. This exit poll had got the figures right!

Detailed analysis

Iam interested in topics related to astronomy, zoology, botany and cosmology. Your supplement KnowHow has been both useful and helpful for me as it does cater to my needs. But often it has seen that you people fail to discuss the details of the stories in columns like Checklist, Good news/Bad news, etc. I would request you to please give more facts and details. Biological and technological news are seen quite frequently, but I would request to do more stories related to astronomy, cosmology, etc.
