Boiling vat kills child

Calcutta, May 20: A three-year-old girl died after she fell into a kadai filled with boiling water.

Priyanka Mahato of Munshigunje Road in the Watgunge area had just woken up yesterday morning when her mother stepped out after putting the huge kadai on the stove next to her cot. A groggy-eyed Priyanka rolled down the cot into the kadai.

Her mother returned and rushed the girl to SSKM Hospital with almost 70 per cent burns. She died later in the day.

Bag hunt

Calcutta: A Jadavpur University student got back his bag which he had left behind in a mini-bus, thanks to a chain of policemen. Rohan Islam called up the police control, which informed all traffic guards. Some 20 minutes later, the bus was intercepted.

Electrocuted

Calcutta: A 42-year-old man was electrocuted on Suresh Sarkar Road under Entally police station on Saturday. Baiju Patwa had touched a wall in contact with a live wire.

Kali tongue

Calcutta: The golden tongue of a Kali idol has gone missing from a temple in Sinthi. The priest discovered that the tongue had been carved out.
