DEBOJIT Debojit SaReGaMa; CD Rs 145

After Abhijit Sawant, Amit Sana, Rahul Vaidya, we have Debojit, the last TV- and SMS-made singing idol, given his album due. In the ‘self-titled’ album, he leads with the ‘label’ making, thanksgiving number, Jeena (My Heart Goes Duma Duma) which, after Yeh pal of the first Indian Idol contestants, is becoming all too predictable, lyrically at least. Jeena is otherwise a pleasant, olde worlde melody (music: Biddu, lyric: Sameer) which has always been Dil bole boom boom Biddu’s Jaayenge Bollywood style. Soft, gentle disco music. Jeena, more soft than disco.

The trio also set out on Teri dua se which is a bit of a downer, followed by Ismail Darbar-Mehboob’s take with Tu dil hai mera and a traditional number, Tu meri arzoo, and a borrowed number, Aaj nahin to kal (Annuji Kappoo-Sameer).

And then the album peters out with Jeena Unplugged and two versions numbers, Ek hasina thi from Karz and O humdum suniyo re from Saathiya, remixed by Shibu-Pinto and DJ Remy, respectively. Business, as usual.
