Power Puff
of the Week

After toppling down from a cliff, 50 feet down, in Krrish Priyanka Chopra wasn’t the least bit nervous, or so she says. Now this wonder woman is looking West to do some more of such stunts. She is in touch with a Hollywood casting agency and if things take the right turn we just might see Chopsy Baby in the garb of the ‘Wonder Woman’, the popular DC comic super-heroine. She is not divulging anything just yet, but she is a maha cartoon buff and simply loves Blossom, one of the Power Puff gals.

Kareena Kapoor and
Ajay Devgan in Omkara

Bebo’s turned angel?

“Kareena and Konkona really disappointed me” ? that’s Omkara director Vishal Bhardwaj for you. No, he’s not upset with their performances onscreen, but their offscreen performances left him utterly disappointed. The actresses got along really well with each other! Actually, if Kareena has turned into an angel, we can thank Shahid Kapur for that. Bebo now gets along with all her costars. Aitraaz saw Priyanka and Kareena bonding, recently both had a blast along with Amrita Arora and Malaika on their live concerts abroad, and now Konkona. Koko is all praise for Kareena, too: “We were working under really hard conditions. She made it so much easier.” Amazing, but true, she doesn’t even regret losing RGV’s Time Machine with SRK since Ramu has dropped the project. Nor does she harbour any ill feeling for Chopsy Baby who has stepped into her shoes in Harry Baweja’s film. Wonder what’s happened to our fire spewing Bebo?

Rajpal Yadav

Not tailormade

RajpalYadav is embarrassed with the remake of the Telugu comedy, Ladies Tailor, a classic comedy by Vamsi. When into his first day of shoot, he realised that director Uday Kant had failed to grasp the essence of the film. Though he asserts that he hasn’t done anything vulgar and had refused to mouth any double-meaning dialogues, he still feels that this kind of humour would go down well only with the interiors. Rajpal is a man who comes off as a very positive person. Determined to learn from his mistake he has now changed focus to his forthcoming lead act in Hello Hum Lallan Bol Rahen Hain. But he ought to have known better: Telugu, comedy, and title like that.

Rahul Bose and Mallika Sherawat in Pyar Ke Side Effects

Mallika ke side effects

Mallika Sherawat will play Goldie Hawn of Howard Zieff’s comedy, Private Benjamin, in Ravi Walia’s Fauj Mein Mauj. A high society young woman decides on a whim to join the Army when her husband dies on their wedding night. There she finds herself in a situation that she hadn’t obviously expected. Mallika, who had lately decided to abstain from skin flicks, appears in Pyar Ke Side Effects with Rahul Bose, supposedly as a Plain Jane Mallika! But it’s not just the raunchy title, Fauj Mein Mauj, that made her change her mind, she had a very good reason for giving it a go. The reason is none other than Salman Khan. Sallu will be playing her personal tutor in the film. Having Mallika for company, whether onscreen or off, has its side effects. As Bips can tell you, ever since the rumour about her John Abs straying during the world tour surfaced. Let’s see if it gets any different with Sallu. Kats, sharpen your claws, girl!

SPOTLIGHT

90 minutes, what fun!

It is the season’s first football film and the first football film to come after two decades. And this time, the players of Padmini Kapila’s 90 Minutes directed by Iqbaal Rizzvi got together with a variety of sports enthusiasts including a football match at Mehboob Studios, Bandra.

Organised by Surge Entertainments Pvt Limited, with exclusive screening on Sahara One in an episode titled, Boondon Se Baatein, on July 16, the match was a part of the monsoon special. “Boondon Se Baatein is about what rain means to the world of cinema and television. Romance in India is all about the rains,” enthuses Amit Mehrotra, director of the show. “90 Minutes is what the world waited for over a month, 90 Minutes is what football fans now await with bated breath every night, and 90 Minutes is what the Indian cinema is awaiting, too. Hence the match is of great significance,” adds Mehrotra.

With Aditya Bal leading one team and Iqbaal Rizzvi leading the other, the match was an edge-of-the-seat entertainment and yet has its fun element intact. “It is fun and the boys just love it,” echoed director Iqbaal Rizzvi cheered on by costars Rukhsar and Abhimanyu who couldn’t play as he had a leg injury. “We had to cut the shoot short due to his injury. Abhimanyu nevertheless was more than happy cheering his team.

“I wanted to be there but I have a shoot in Delhi and hence couldn’t make it,” said Manoj Bajpai who plays a coach in the film. Padmini Kapila, who is in Dubai currently, echoed the same. International star Raj Vasudeva who is making his debut in Bollywood with Bezubaan Pathar opposite Vasundhara Das said that since he heard about the match in the afternoon, he felt the need to come and cheer the players. “It is great fun,” he said.
