EAR SECRETIONS
I have been suffering from secretions from my left ear and I am not being able to hear properly for the past 15 days. What should I do now?
Pus from the ear may be because of trauma or injury in the external ear. But the most common cause is an infection in the middle ear with a perforation in the tympanic membrane (eardrum). The perforation may be caused by acute or chronic infection. It needs to be taken care of by proper medication. If the perforation in the eardrum is very small, it may heal automatically. But in case of recurring discharge from the ear, and a big perforation in the eardrum, some surgical intervention may be necessary. So please consult an ENT surgeon as early as possible.
Mouth ulcer
I am 18 years old. I have been suffering from major aphthous ulcer in my mouth for the past three years. I had taken many antibiotics and vitamins prescribed by various physicians, but to no avail. Please suggest some remedies.
The exact cause of aphthous ulcer is still not known. It may be owing to dental causes, vitamin deficiency or related to anxiety. These ulcers usually affect the vestibule of the mouth, gums and the oral mucus membrane. They can be very painful. It has been found that those who usually consume tinned food (stored food) for a long time suffer from this problem. You should take care of your oral and dental hygiene and general health .Try to minimise your stress level. Tobacco should be avoided.
titinus trouble
I am 59 years old. I have been suffering from a constant headache and severe pain in both the joints just above the upper part of the ears and I can also hear a constant ringing sound in both the ears. I have been diabetic for the past 15 years. Medicines prescribed by a neurologist could bring no relief. What could be the reasons behind such headache and ringing sound?
Blood circulation inside the body produces some sound . As a persons hearing capacity gets poorer with age, these sounds become more audilble. One hears the ringing sound (titinus) more prominently during sleep. A combination of diabetes and cervical spondylosis is sometimes responsible for persistent headache and titinus. Blood sugar level needs to be controlled as it may worsen your condition. Consult an ENT surgeon immediately for proper diagnosis and treatment.
blocked nostrils
I am 27 years old. My nostrils get completely blocked during the rainy season. Do I need to use nasal drops? What should I do?
Nasal blocks or rhinitis are induced by allergy. You are probably suffering from seasonal allergic rhinitis which may be due to cold, fluctuation of temperature or humidity. Its characterised by nasal obstruction, sneezing and nasal discharge. Avoid nasal drop as it provides temporary relief but in the long run worsens the obstruction. Consult an ENT specialist for proper treatment.
taste Sensation
My mother (65) has been suffering from bleeding piles for the past 15 years and also blood sugar for the past three years. She is not getting any taste sensation in her mouth these days and she is losing her appetite. Neurological treatment has not responded well. How can she get back her taste quickly?
Decreased taste sensation in general is a neurological problem. The nerve responsible for taste sensations gets damaged with age or due to high blood sugar levels. Controlling blood sugar and some neurological treatment may help you recover. So consult a neurologist soon.
