Mastermind

Have you heard of Arjun Vishnuvardhan? He is a 15-year-old Indian chess prodigy who became the youngest national champion in America, beating international master Edward Formanek in the US National Game 60 Championship. In fact, Arjun remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and scored 5.5 points out of a possible six in the six-round tournament. He has now been invited to participate in the Las Vegas International Masters chess tournament, which begins tomorrow and will field 41 International Masters and Grandmasters from all over the world! In addition, Arjun has been playing the Chicago Open from May 26 and the US Junior Open in Texas, before the next European trip. The boy from Kerala has taken leave from school to play in the US and European chess circuit!

Mime time

Urtains up

It’s curtains up for the Indian Mime Theatre as it puts up a three-day long Children’s Theatre Festival from June 9 to June 10 daily from 6 pm to 9 pm at the Lady Ranu Mukherjee Mancha (Academy of Fine Arts), in Calcutta. Participating in it will be the School Children Theatre from Calcutta and other districts of West Bengal. The 14th Children Theatre Workshop at the Entally Academy Auditorium is also on till June 10, daily from 10 am to 6 pm. With so much play acting seems like we’ll soon have a bunch of talented actors to contend with.
