2nd ASRF enter final

Dibrugarh, July 28: The 2nd Assam Special Reserve Force (ASRF), Karbi Anglong, edged past Food Corporation of India (FCI), Guwahati 2-1 to enter the final of the C.K. Sarma invitation football meet at the DDSA outdoor stadium today.

ASRF took the lead in the sixth minute of the match itself when Nakul Basumatary?s header found the net. FCI found the equaliser in the 17th minute through a penalty. Biren Goyary did not miss the opportunity. However, ASRF?s Derasad Brahma struck in the 41st minute. At interval, the scoreline read 2-1.

The second half proved to be more exciting as both teams worked hard to score.

However, none of the teams managed to capitalise on the opportunities created.

In between, FCI goalie Gobinda Boro was given marching orders by the referee five minutes before the end of the match as he had crossed his area to grab a goal.

Bolen Ramchiary and Munindra Basumatary of ASRF and FCI?s Kubal Rava were shown yellow cards for foul play.

OIL take on Tinsukia Railway in the second semifinal tomorrow. The final will be held on Sunday.

Soccer team: The Guwahati Sports Association has named the district team for the Satindra Mohan Dev sub-junior (under-16) inter-district football tournament that got under way at Silchar on Friday.

The squad: Ankur Saikia, Tapan Bakel, Sanjib Boro (gk), Bipul Ingti, Diganta Timung, Bipul Rabha, Monoranjan Sonowal, Bijoy Choudhury, Kapil Daimary, Ratan Talukdar, Rajib Boro, I Mamin, Kamal Das, Moonmoom Sonowal, Satya Mandal, Arup barman, Jibeswar Boro, Pranjal Rabha, Sailendra Nath and Badi Rahang.
