Lower Assam dominates Deokon meet
Guwahati, July 28: The semifinal line-up of the ongoing Deokon Trophy inter-district school (under-17) football meet at Kashikatra in Chirang district was drawn up today.
Hosts Chirang will meet Goalpara and Bongaigaon will clash with Golaghat on Saturday. In the quarter-finals on Friday, Chirang blanked out Sonitpur 2-0, Goalpara tamed Sivasagar 4-1, Bongaigaon beat Dhemaji 6-4 and Golaghat routed Kamrup (Rural) 5-1.
Chess team: The All Assam Chess Association has named the state squad for the 44th National B Chess tournament to be held at Ahmedabad from September 1 to 10. The squad comprises Madhab Sarma, Manoj Baruah, Utpal Baruah and Santanu Barpatra Gohain. The donor players have been asked to contact the association secretary Dipak Ghatowar by August 2 to confirm entries.
